In-person Turning Pages group sessions will resume in January. Monthly sessions are planned at the Afrika Nzuri book club studio, alongside a school-based series. In the meantime, readers who request free e-books through the Afrika Nzuri Library continue to participate in smaller virtual sessions, including one-on-one conversations. The 147th Turning Pages session was one of them.
The session featured Six Hours in Accra. Its sole participant was a Huye-based reader named Irene Iradukunda. And yes, despite the name, Irene is a man. With a background in journalism and some experience in writing, he brought thoughtful insights to the discussion.
Although Six Hours in Accra is not a travel guide, Irene found useful information and gathered ideas from the book. More importantly, the story sparked his interest in visiting Accra and created a strong connection with the city and its people.
For Irene, the book is also proof that even a half-day tour can reveal a great deal about a place. This led to a broader discussion about how travelers can make the most of limited time, an idea that extends far beyond Accra.
The part of the book that stayed with him the most was the story of young Ghanaian aspiring professional soccer players who dream big, work hard, and trust the process.
2027 will usher in a new chapter in the Turning Pages program. As mentioned earlier, in-person group gatherings will resume in January. For now, smaller virtual conversations continue, allowing readers to stay connected and engaged.
