It was a beautiful, sunny day in Kigali. I was running my usual errands when a stopover at Amata n’Ubuki Boutique Hotel was added to my itinerary. It felt like one of those off-the-script pauses that quietly reshapes the rhythm of an otherwise ordinary day.
Upon arrival, I had some coffee on the balcony overlooking a splendid garden. The morning sun filtered through the leaves, casting dappled light across the table, while the gentle rustle of trees and the distant chirping of birds created a serene backdrop.
Stepping into the reception, I was immediately struck by the interior design, where artistic touches are seamlessly woven throughout the space. Even though the books placed here and there tempted me to pause and flip a few pages, I chose to keep moving—checking the place out before heading to my next appointment.
As I took the stairs to the rooms, I found myself marveling at the design. This was no ordinary staircase; the combination of light, textures, and art made it a piece of art in its own right, a prelude to what lay beyond.

A quick glimpse into standard rooms revealed thoughtful details and subtle touches designed for comfort. After a sneak peek of the regular rooms, I finally made my way to the Executive Suite—the crown jewel of the property.
The suite embodies modern comfort and African-inspired elegance. Plush, neatly dressed beds take center stage, accented with crisp white linens. Soft ambient lighting, sculptural bedside lamps, and warm wooden finishes together create a calm, inviting atmosphere.
A cozy seating area unfolds within the suite, complete with upholstered chairs, a reading desk, and curated artwork that lends personality and character to the space. Neutral tones are complemented by earthy textures and woven details, while floor-to-ceiling curtains soften light and offer privacy—a perfect balance between relaxation and functionality.
The suite opens onto a spacious verandah, overlooking some of Kigali’s greenest areas. From this vantage point, the gentle breeze and melodic birdsong created a private sanctuary—a serene escape in the heart of the city, perfect for pausing, unwinding, and simply breathing.
After exploring the rooms, I descended to the hotel’s restaurant. The neatly arranged tables, elegant décor, and thoughtful touches created a welcoming space that invited me to pause and take it all in.

The restaurant’s poolside setting adds another layer of tranquility. As gleams of sunlight embellish the surface of the pool, they cast a warm, shimmering glow over the surrounding tables. This restaurant offers a peaceful space for relaxation, conversation, and reflection.
When I reached the coffee corner—the very spot where the coffee I had earlier was brewed—I felt an irresistible urge to grab another cup. The rich aroma and warm ambiance beckoned, but a quick glance at my caffeine watch reminded me that I had consumed two cups since sunrise.
