I was about to complete a 360° swing around Lake Muhazi. This expedition took me through parts of Gasabo, Rwamagana, Kayonza, and Gatsibo. By the time I crossed into the Gicumbi stretch of the shoreline, my mind was already set on a lunch break at Muhazi Marina Beach.
Then a manicured lakeside garden caught my attention. No grand signage, no deliberate invitation—just an easy, unforced openness that made me slow down and instinctively turn back. Yes, I had gone past the entrance when I made a U-turn.
This peaceful sanctuary goes by the name Light Friend Muhazi. Its artistically designed bar is perched by the lake, opening into a spacious garden dotted with wooden benches and colorful umbrellas.
Stepping into the garden felt like exhaling after a long ride. The grass stretches lazily across the vast garden. A cool breeze drifts in from the lake, easing the heat and slowing the pace of thought. It’s the kind of setting that instantly activates the holiday mood.
Inside the bar, bottles line wooden shelves, glasses hang overhead, ready to be reached and filled, quietly inviting you to sit down and obey your thirst. I’ll admit, the idea of trading my riding boots for flip-flops and calling it a day was very tempting.
The rooms sit on the upper side, across the dirt road that hugs the lake between Cyamutara and Kiramuruzi. And yes—this place keeps things affordable. For anyone craving a quiet night by Lake Muhazi without breaking the bank, you may have just found your spot.
