I was running errands in Kigali — and not your usual, “I’ll just pop out for a minute” kind. Nah, this was the full-city marathon version: Remera to Nyamirambo, a quick spin to Gikondo, then full throttle toward Kicukiro. You know… that type of day. I can go weeks without crisscrossing the city, but when I do? I move like I’m on a secret mission to inspect all four corners of Kigali in a single afternoon.

At some point, my route led me to Mundi Center on KN 3 Road. I had to pick up a parcel from a friend's workshop — and since I’d never been to the place, curiosity instantly grabbed me by the collar. As usual, I wandered every corridor, sticking my head into random shops like I was conducting a surprise inspection. Mundi Center is wild, by the way. One minute someone is trying to sell you chocolate, the next you’re staring at heavy machinery wondering how, exactly, you ended up in a conversation about hydraulic systems.

And listen… I have this habit of entertaining product pitches even when I know I’m not buying anything. I always end up feeling guilty — like I just made a salesperson waste their best lines on someone who came in just to look around and ask unnecessary questions.

But then I stepped into La Cachette, and that’s where all my window-shopping innocence ended. Buying nothing here? Impossible. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee ambushed my senses like, You’re not leaving without a dose of caffeine.” Before I knew it, I was holding a Cappuccino and emotionally processing the fact that I had been pitched everything from candy to construction equipment within the last 20 minutes.

La Cachette itself? Honestly, pretty charming. Cozy. A little stylish. And if you’re a soccer fan, this is basically your sanctuary. There’s a big screen, a chill vibe, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to shout at referees when things don't go your team's way.

While I was paying for my coffee, the barista casually slipped in, “Oh by the way — we’ve got a hot Champions League match screening on Friday… and a concert on Saturday.

Just like that, my errands trip turned into a weekend plan. Seems like I’ll be back soon — this time, intentionally.
